Iron Horse Yakuza Kumicho

The Iron Horse Yakuza Kumicho mountain bike is one of the best downhill and freeride bikes for the money.

The Yakuza Kumicho has received high marks from its owners and has acquired a reputation as a tough bike that can take quite a bit of abuse, especially in terms of tough downhill riding. Virtually all its riders love its 1.5” headtubes on the frame, making it extremely durable and able to handle nearly anything that’s thrown at it.

This bike is at its best on shorter courses that require a bike with a lot of agility. It’s not built for speed but for strength, so a professional racing mountain bike it is not. But for beginners new to mountain biking, or to old pros who can’t afford a top-of-the-line new mountain bike, the Iron Horse Yakuza Kumicho is a nearly perfect bike.

Riders who have any complaints at all about the Iron Horse Yakuza Kumicho complain about its suspension forks. For the inexperienced, mountain bike suspension forks are the front shocks of the bike designed to absorb impact on rough terrain. The standard suspension forks used on a Yakuza Kumicho are Marzocchi dual crown forks, which have a reputation for being a little bit on the heavy side. It’s relatively easy to replace the suspension fork with something more to your own liking.

The other complaint that the Yakuza Kumicho often gets is its weight – all that durability comes with a price, and the price is that it’s not a light bike.
