Your Essential Guide to Mountain Bike Equipment
|
Mountain biking is a great sport and totally accessible for all riders regardless of age or ability. But buying a good quality bike is just the start you’ll also need to invest in good quality mountain bike equipment. But where do you start? My essential guide below will help you out. |
Tip 1 – Bike Helmet
This should be number one on any mountain bikers shopping list. The mountain bike helmet will protect your head from those inevitable falls and crashes. For the price conscious check out the Bell Slant and Giro Hex.
Tip 2 – Gloves
Not always an immediately obvious choice but consider the beating you hands can take in all that sun, wind, and rain. Buy a good, quality pair of mountain bike gloves that will keep your hands protected and warm but not so thick that you cannot hold the handlebars securely.
Tip 3 – Eye Protection
When mountain biking there is a risk of particles being blown into your eyes so investing in a good quality pair of mountain bike sun-glasses will help protect you. Ensure you buy a good make preferably with a strap to secure them in place.
Tip 4 – Shoes
For Casual Mountain biking basic running shoes may be all you need but if you are cycling over rough terrain give serious consideration to buying a good quality pair of mountain bike shoes with solid soles.
Tip 5 – Repair Kit
A good mountain bike repair kit should at least contain tire levers, a tire repair kit, and a mountain bike multi-tool. The repair kit can reside in your back pack or be attached to the bike itself.
Tip 6 – Water Bottle
For long mountain bike trials it is important to stay hydrated so carrying along extra fluids is always a good idea. Seasoned pros like to use backpacks that hold the fluid within them with tubes coming out for easy access.
Tip 7 –Clothing
Wearing baggy clothing whilst riding is ok for short casual bike rides but for mountain bike trials it is not a good idea. Instead consider investing in a good pair padded shorts to protect your bottom and keep the cloth away from the bike chain.
